Exciting updates for candidates seeking citizenship in Canada. IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has sent an invitation to the candidates in the first Express Entry Draw on the 6th of December, 2023. There are 2 Draws expected this week, including the 8th of December.
In an all-program draw, the concerned department sent out 4000 invites to those willing to make Canada their new home.
However, interested candidates must get a minimum 561 score on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to meet the eligibility criteria.
Draw Disruption and Resolution
It is to be noted that this was the first Canada Express Entry Draw since October 2023. On the 14th of November, the representatives of IRCC explained through a tweet that some candidates were facing hurdles in using the Express Entry Profile Builder and were not able to upload their applications.
But soon, on the 16th of November, another tweet was made from the department saying that the issues were resolved. It is not certain that the extended gap in the Express Entry Draw was because of this.
Contrasting Draws in October
Talking about the most recent draws on the 26th of October, it was seen that three thousand six hundred candidates were given invitations to apply. It was a category-oriented selection only for healthcare occupations. To meet the eligibility criteria, the candidates were required to 431 through CRS.
Following this, there were 2 more draws in a similar week. On the 25th of October, the department of IRCC called three hundred candidates in a category-oriented selection draw, encouraging those who are proficient in speaking French. The minimum CRS eligibility score for these candidates was 486.
The remaining draw took place on the 24th of October when IRCC sent invites to more than 1500 candidates in a PNP draw known as the Provincial Nominee Program. These 1,548 candidates were required to hold a CRS 776 score to be considered eligible. An additional score of 600 CRS was automatically given to express entry candidates who are nominated through PNP, making even the minimum CRS score higher.
Understanding Category-Based Selection
In May of 2023, the department of IRCC delivered a public announcement confirming the hold of express entry invites for category-oriented selection.
Category-based draws are dedicated to express entry candidates holding specific attributes, stills, or expertise. For instance, proficiency in the French language or expertise and experience in the following fields.
- STEM professions;
- Agriculture and agri-food
- Transport;
- Healthcare;
- Trades;
These occupations lack the experienced and skilled workforce in Canada, resulting in strain on the country’s economy and other important sectors, such as medical or healthcare, supply chain, etc.
Government Perspective and Future Plans
According to Marc Miller, the immigration minister of Canada, admission of skilled people is the right way to wave off the shortages, especially when we know that by 2030, 9 million Canadians are expected to be retired.
According to the latest immigration levels plan, which is for 2023 to 2025, Canada is expected to welcome 114,000 Federal High Skilled (Express Entry) immigrants every year till the end of 2025. Also, there will be a brand new level plan on or by the 1st of November.
Understanding Express Entry
It is an AMS (Application Management System) that handles the process of candidates applying for permanent residence in Canada through the Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
By Express Entry, the candidates are marked eligible with the help of CRS, a short of Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS grants a number by evaluating people on their collective human capital attributes. These attributes include language, occupation, work experience, education, ability, and age.
