The recent draw in the Federal Express Entry draw that took place yesterday witnessed the invitation of 3,200 candidates to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
This came with a least CRS ranking score of 472. It has brought the total number of invitations this year to 82,000.
The tie-breaking rule for this draw took place on the 6th of December, at 03:03:49 UTC.
In essence, applicants whose CRS scores were 472 or above, and registered their profile in the pool before the said date will receive an invitation.
The Federal Express Entry system comprises of three major programs – Federal Skilled Workers (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian experience.
Among all these classes, candidates do not require a prior employment offer in Canada to apply. However, factors such as applicant’s age, education, language proficiency, work experience, among others, are a very crucial determinant of the CRS score.
Each time a draw occurs, certain factors determine the CRS benchmark. They include the interval between successive draws, the number of applicants in the pool, and the previous number of ITAs.
On average, each draw takes place every two weeks.
Often, the average number of invitations is 3,600, which, of course, will involve the selection of candidates further down the pool. But with the latest 3,200 ITAs, it is evident that the range did not go deep down the pool.
The consequence, therefore, is an increase in the CRS score.
According to Canada’s Immigration target, the expected number of invitations for permanent residency next year is 85,800, in contrast to this year’s 81,400.
Aside from the three subdivisions of the Federal Express Entry programs, several provinces in Canada have also developed a method of inviting permanent residents to the region.
The system is referred to as the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The Federal government permits these territories to select candidates even with lower express entry scores. A candidate who receives a PNP nomination will have an additional 600 points to his or her express entry profile score.
The overall PNP target for next year is set to 67,800, a 6,800 increase from this year’s 61,000.
A sample case study is Mejil:
Mejil is a software engineer with a Master’s degree and three years of working experience. He is 31 and scored 8-band in the writing and listening proficiency test, and 7 in reading and speaking, respectively.
With no working or educational background in Canada, Mejil estimated CRS score of 472 would be sufficient to earn him an ITA in the just-announced draw.
